Hello,
My name is Benjamin Sunkyong Kim and I’m a freelance photographer and visual artist based in New York City. I earned my BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts graduated in 2018.
I was born in Tokyo, Japan, where my Korean parents were studying at the time. Due to my father’s job as a professor and scientist, my family moved frequently, primarily residing in Seoul, South Korea, before relocating to Golden, Colorado, in 2008. A pivotal moment came in 2009 when we moved to New York City, and I’ve been based in Queens for over 15 years. But I still miss Seoul, South Korea.
My creative perspectives come from memory, mental states, family, colors, and surrealism. Expressing my own vision is essential to how I see and feel the world and it’s my way of communicating with others as I often struggle with personal problems. Because of that, I’ve always sought a way to communicate in my own way.
I look forward to expand my careers to pursuit my own happiness and work/collaborate with people as a creative person.
